Roy Keane is reportedly open to becoming Neil Lennon’s successor as permanent Celtic manager.

That’s according to The Scottish Sun, who claimed that the 49-year-old – who reportedly rejected the job to replace Lennon back in 2014 – would now consider a move to Parkhead.

Keane’s managerial absence

Well-known for his punditry roles in recent years, Keane last managed back in 2010/11 with Ipswich Town.

Since then, the Irishman – who finished his playing career with Celtic – has been an assistant at Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and for his native Republic of Ireland.

However, it seems as if he’s keen to return to the dugout, and his love for Celtic has seen him become keen on the vacant Parkhead position, according to The Scottish Sun.

Keane was left unimpressed with Peter Lawwell seven years ago as to how negotiations materialised, but he won’t have to worry about the chief executive this time around due to the latter’s impending retirement.

To us, a move for Keane would be a huge gamble. He has taken charge of just 181 games as a manager, with those coming between 2008 and 2011. Also, some players under his watch have gone public about the 49-year-old’s abrasive demeanour in previous coaching roles.

His long absence away from the hot seat could therefore prove to be a risky move by the Hoops board, but it seems as if the former midfielder is keen to head back to Glasgow.

What’s the story?

After going through a fairly quiet January transfer window at Elland Road, all eyes are on what Marcelo Bielsa’s side do when the summer comes around.

Already, there has been speculation linking them with a move for Milan youngster Tommaso Pobega, and now, The Daily Star claim that the Yorkshire club have got their sights set on another Serie A sensation.

It’s suggested that along with the likes of Southampton, West Ham, and Tottenham, Leeds have joined the race to sign Damsgaard, and that they have expressed an interest in luring him to the Premier League.

A dream player for Bielsa

More than the fact the 20-year-old has enjoyed an impressive campaign with Sampdoria going forward – he’s scored two goals and provided four assists, including against the likes of Inter and Milan – it’s his defensive work that surely marks him out as a dream signing for Bielsa.

Sofascore lifts one of the left-winger’s biggest strengths as his “high pressing”, and when you look at his defensive numbers, it’s clear to see why.

Despite the position he plays, he has averaged an impressive 1.5 tackles and 0.7 interceptions per game in Serie A – only Jack Harrison betters his tackles per game among Leeds’ wide options, while nobody can match his interceptions rate, proving that Damsgaard is someone who is more than capable of buying into Bielsa’s intensity at Elland Road.

Dubbed as “magical” by Norwegian football expert Martin Mikkelsen, he also added that Damsgaard is “dynamic and can go both ways. He is creative but also so mature in his decisions.”

The Denmark international could strike a tantalising wing duo with Raphinha on the opposite flank, with both seemingly capable of moments of magic – you only have to look at the latter’s piece of skill to completely embarrass Gary Cahill in the Premier League last time out to see that.

The right-footed Damsgaard would offer something different to the left-footed option of Harrison, and both him and Raphinha cutting in from their respective flanks would open the game up a lot more for Leeds’ full-backs to make flying runs past them.

The £7.2m-rated gem isn’t just a flashy winger who only cares about what he does at the top end of the pitch. His defensive diligence is something Bielsa would absolutely love, and it’s exactly why the Whites must fend off the competition to sign him in the summer.

A qualidade técnica do jogo entre Flamengo e América-MG não condisse com o alto valor do ingresso (R$ 140) pago pelos rubro-negros que lotaram o Kléber Andrade, em Cariacica (ES). A vitória magra de 1 a 0, com gol de pênalti de Everton, serviu apenas como uma consolação aos torcedores, mas também deixou encaminhada a classificação do Flamengo, líder do grupo C, com seis pontos, para a próxima fase da Primeira Liga.

No geral, o jogo foi bastante sonolento. Poucas chances de gol criadas pelos dois lados e muita monotonia. O Flamengo manteve a posse de bola durante boa parte da partida, mas é bom deixar claro que isso não significa que o time de Muricy Ramalho tenha jogado bem. A dificuldade na saída de bola foi visível. Consequentemente, não se teve oportunidades de marcar. Se não fosse o pênalti convertido por Everton, a chance de o placar não sair do zero seria grande.

Talvez as três mudanças no time titular tenham contribuído para isso. Além do estreante Cuéllar, Gabriel e Everton também começaram a partida. Willian Arão e Marcelo Cirino, poupados, ficaram no banco de reserva, e Emerson Sheik sequer viajou, também preservado. O colombiano, ainda desentrosado e longe da forma ideal, foi bem participativo. Tentou, de várias formas, contribuir na saída de bola, ainda que tenha errado alguns lançamentos.

O América-MG, que pouco jogou no primeiro tempo, se arriscou um pouco mais no ataque durante a etapa final. Deu trabalho a Paulo Victor em alguns poucos momentos, mas também se expôs, já que precisava da vitória para manter vivas as chances de classificação, algo que agora ficou bem complicado.

De volta ao Flamengo, fica claro que Muricy Ramalho ainda tem muito a ajustar na equipe, principalmente no meio de campo, onde há uma espécie de vácuo entre os jogadores com características defensivas e os de função ofensiva. A vitória, evidentemente, foi de suma importância, mas deixou um gosto amargo de que precisa melhorar muita coisa.

O Grêmio ainda busca reforços para esta temporada. Segundo o GloboEsporte.com, a ideia da diretoria é anunciar pelo menos um nome até o próximo fim de semana. O atacante venezuelano Josef Martínez, do Torino (ITA), é o mais próximo. Alguns detalhes da negociação ainda precisam ser resolvidos, mas as partes esperam concretizá-la até a próxima sexta-feira.

Um fator que pode facilitar a contratação de Martínez é o fechamento dos principais mercados europeus. O Tricolor gaúcho tenta aparar todas as arestas para que o jogador chegue o mais rápido possível em Porto Alegre.

A rapidez do Grêmio também se deve a outro motivo. O Imortal está de olho no prazo para inscrição de jogadores para a fase de grupos da Libertadores. O clube tem até o dia 15 de fevereiro para enviar os relacionados. Porém, isso deve acontecer antes, já que a equipe viaja dia 13 para a estreia no México e só estará na delegação que estiver na lista de inscritos.

Além de Martínez, o Grêmio ainda busca um meia para brigar pela posição com Douglas. O clube também negocia com outro atacante, mas o nome é mantido em sigilo pela diretoria.

After suffering a disappointing opening day defeat to Leicester last weekend, West Brom fell to a 5-2 loss to Everton in their second Premier League game of the season on Saturday afternoon.

The Baggies took the lead thanks to a wonder strike from Grady Diangana from outside the box, but following an equaliser from Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Kieran Gibbs cost his side big time with a mindless red card.

Slaven Bilic’s side inevitably struggled in the aftermath of it, and ended up shipping another four goals to the Toffees. But whilst Gibbs will of course be the talk of the town at the Hawthorns – fans even took to Twitter after the game to voice their frustrations with the left-back – he wasn’t the only disappointment on the day.

Callum Robinson produced a fairly anonymous performance last weekend against Leicester, making just seven total passes in his 60 minutes worth of action.

And the clash against Everton was pretty much more of the same from the former Sheffield United ace, with the Baggies not getting anywhere near enough from their front man.

As per Sofascore, he had just 35 touches of the ball, and only managed one shot on goal in the entire game. Of course, Robinson’s task was made that much harder particularly in the entirety of the second-half after Gibbs’ red card, but he still didn’t make enough runs into the channel or hold the ball up for his teammates.

The striker struggled to get the better of Michael Keane and Yerry Mina at the heart of Everton’s defence, and in the nine total duels he contested, he won just one. Bilic needed Robinson to be more of a presence, or at least offer an outlet on any potential counter-attacks, but instead, he just disappeared from the game.

Gibbs may take a lot of the flak, but Robinson didn’t cover himself in glory either.
