Antonio Conte could be about to help fund Chelsea’s lavish transfer spending by raiding his former club’s squad. 

The Blues have made major moves in the transfer window so far by signing the likes of Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva. However, Frank Lampard isn’t finished splurging and is still eyeing up other potential targets.

Conte could be about to aid this by making a triple swoop from his old club, according to the Daily Express.

The report claims that N’Golo Kante is one of Inter Milan’s top priorities, but Chelsea are demanding a mammoth £80m before they let the Frenchman leave. Despite the fact that Lampard doesn’t see room for Kante in his future plans, the club aren’t budging on their asking price.

Conte’s interest doesn’t stop there either – the Italian is also interested in snapping up Emerson Palmieri and Olivier Giroud, who could both turn out to be surplus personnel once the new Premier League season starts.

Emerson has been linked with a move away from west London but Giroud’s place could also be under threat. With both Werner and Tammy Abraham in the picture, the 33-year-old could used as a pawn in Lampard’s transfer game.

Chelsea have outlined the urgency to recruit a replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga, who has lost the faith of the manager. A centre-back is also a priority, according to a recent report from the Daily Star.

Declan Rice is among the names heavily linked with a Chelsea move, along with Kai Havertz. who will cost the Blues about £90m.

If Conte can find the funds to sign the Chelsea trio, he could provide his former club with a mountain of cash, which could further fuel an already spendthrift transfer window for Lampard.

Many Newcastle United fans have reacted to comments made by Amanda Staveley, the businesswoman leading the takeover bid.

As per ChronicleLive, moderator Manus Cranny could hear a ‘discernible change of tone’ in her voice when they talked about sport and chose to ask her why someone would want to invest in the game.

She said that they are quite big football supporters in her family, both in terms of supporting clubs and as investors, and have been looking to buy assets in the Premier League for some time.

However, Staveley added that there is a difficulty in terms of totally different valuations, and as a private equity investor, you would look at quite moderate ones and then, suddenly, you are getting advisors saying that some of the big top flight teams are now trading at four or five times revenue. She claims that this is heavy, but they believe very much in investing in sport.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has lauded veteran right-back Phil Bardsley as “an excellent pro” following his most recent performance.

The 35-year-old was restored to the Clarets’ line-up in Monday night’s win at Crystal Palace in place of the injured Matthew Lowton and his display at Selhurst Park drew glowing praise from his manager.

Dyche told Burnley Express: “He is an excellent pro and worked very hard for his performance. Lowts has been unlucky with what has happened to his foot but Bardo has come in and delivered.”

Bardsley, who recently signed a new deal at Burnley while several team-mates saw their contracts expire, did indeed have a solid performance against the Eagles on Monday, winning two aerial duels and one tackle as well as making four clearances (as per WhoScored) in helping the Clarets to keep a clean sheet.

A veteran of 293 Premier League games, he has alternated right-back duties on a near-equal basis with Lowton this season and trumps his younger colleague for some key metrics. Of the duo, Bardsley has won more tackles (2.7 to 2.4) and aerial duels (1.9 to 1.3) per game this term, although Lowton has made more interceptions per game (1.6 to 1.1) and boasts a greater passing success rate (68.6% to 64.4%).

As per premierinjuries.com, the 31-year-old has a stress response to his foot and is unlikely to be back soon, so Bardsley could call the right-back slot his own for Burnley’s remaining fixtures this season and duly endear himself further to Dyche.

Lowton’s injury could have been catastrophic for a Burnley side with a very busy treatment room at the moment, but Bardsley’s decision to extend his stay at the club has ensured that Dyche continues to have a dependable and experienced option at right-back.

In the wake of the injury to his team-mate, the 35-year-old’s commitment to the Turf Moor cause now looks even more critical and, given his performance averages this season, it is little wonder that his manager has showered him with such high praise.

West Bromwich Albion boss Slaven Bilic has provided a clue into his team selection for Monday evening when they face a trip to Preston North End.

The Baggies head into the weekend sitting pretty at the top of the Championship table, two points ahead of their main rivals Leeds United and seven points ahead of the playoff zone.

Depending on the Yorkshiremen’s result against Middlesbrough this afternoon, the pressure may be back on Albion to perform meaning Monday’s game could hold even more importance by the time it swings around.

Bilic has been talking about his improving striking department this week, and in doing so, provided a major hint into who will lead the line at Deepdale, he said:

“It’s impossible for all of them to play.

“Hal [Robson-Kanu] waited for his chance.

“For a long time he was almost tagged or labelled, even before I came here, as an impact player. But he deserves his chance, he’s waited a long time.

“He was coming from the bench good, then we put him in the team and he’s done really well since then.

“At the moment he is starting and he deserves it.”

Team selection

The Croatian chief is finally getting some sort of positive selection headache in the number nine role as for much of the season it has been a barren attempt from their three strikers.

Charlie Austin has practically tripled his goal tally for the season in the last two games alone, both from the bench too, while Hal Robson-Kanu has netted five goals in seven matches, which has led to Bilic talking him up this week.

And then there’s Kenneth Zohore who has been out of action for a while through injury but he is now back pushing the aforementioned duo for a place in the matchday squad.

It seems likely that the Welshman will be selected again to lead the line for a fourth straight game based on Bilic’s latest remarks, even despite the 30-year-old building up a reputation as a ‘super-sub’ over his career.
