Aston Villa fans annoyed by Jack Grealish injury

Aston Villa fans have been left annoyed after Jack Grealish picked up an injury during the club’s 3-0 loss to Manchester City at The Etihad Stadium.

The Athletic’s Villa reporter, Gregg Evans, reported after the game that the playmaker had picked up a calf injury, with manager Dean Smith unsure of the severity of the issue.

And supporters have expressed their frustrations with the news, with several believing that Grealish should have been substituted prior to collecting his issue; he had been booked, while the score was 3-0 to Pep Guardiola’s men at the time of his withdrawal.

The 24-year-old has been integral to the way Villa have played this season, featuring in all 10 Premier League games thus far this term.

He has scored two goals, against Norwich City and Brighton & Hove Albion, and also laid on three assists.

However, he could now miss a number of fixtures, with Villa set to take on Wolves in the Carabao Cup before league games against Liverpool, Wolves, Newcastle United, Manchester United and Chelsea.

Take a look at the best of the reaction below!

Leeds fans give damning verdicts on Mateusz Klich

Leeds were back to winning ways for only the second time in six matches in all competitions on Tuesday. They bounced back from what was a tough defeat against Charlton last weekend to reign victorious over previously unbeaten West Brom. After the game took place, The Athletics’ Phil Hay posted an article that detailed the progression of Mateusz Klich, one of the players to take to the field for the Whites in midweek. However, the Polish midfielder was criticised by a certain segment of Leeds supporters who offered damning verdicts on specific aspects of his play when replying to his tweet. One fan said that he looked leggy while his inability to shoot properly was also at the front of one individual’s mind.Klich netted ten times in the Championship last term but has only scored one this time around. He also missed a penalty against Derby.A further fan was looking for improvement in the final third, explaining his decision making was poor.

Klich has been mooted for a new contract recently but nothing has yet to formally come out of the club regarding his future.

Here’s some of the criticism he received.

Man Utd fans hail Axel Tuanzebe for being the club’s silver lining

Amidst all the doom and gloom currently surrounding Manchester United, the one thing the Red Devils desperately need is a silver lining.

Someone who can be the small ray of hope for the Old Trafford faithful as they look to shake off their current miseries. And even in a 1-0 defeat to Newcastle on Sunday afternoon, Axel Tuanzebe proved he could be just that.

Less than a week after some Red Devils fans slammed him for his mistake in the 1-1 draw against Arsenal, the young defender delivered a performance that got the supporters well back on side.

As per Sofascore, the 21-year-old completed 89% of his passes, made two tackles, two interceptions and one tackle too. The fact he also played at both centre-back and then at right-back simply added to the impressive nature of his display.

Leeds youngster Jay-Roy Grot proving why Marcelo Bielsa plans were wrong

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football Fancast’s Loan Watch series, which takes a closer look at those players who are aiming to galvanise their careers away from the spotlight of their parent club.

Jay-Roy Grot endured a torrid first season at Leeds in 2017/18.

Failing to ever show the form that saw him net five times for NEC Nijmegan, he scored just once. He only started one game all season and was consequently shipped on temporarily.

That was before Marcelo Bielsa, however, who following that term never saw a use for him.

The 21-year-old returned to the Netherlands last campaign for a season with VVV-Venlo and didn’t have the worst of campaigns, contributing to nine goals in the Eredivisie.

It appears as though the youngster thrives in this league and during his start to the term at Vitesse, a club known for its links with developing young Chelsea players, he is showing tremendous strides.

In his first five games, the Leeds man has played in a variety of roles including up front and on the flanks. He’s proving to be versatile and given the way Bielsa uses players like Kalvin Phillips and Jamie Shackleton in different positions, he seems like someone the Argentine would like.

However, that is far from the truth. When Yorkshire Evening Post initially reported Vitesse’s interest in the Dutchman this summer, they claimed that he would be let go if Bielsa couldn’t find room for him in his plans.

Despite that, he wasn’t deemed surplus at Elland Road.

But his performances in 2019/20 are showing why those plans may have been wrong.

In four starts, Grot has scored one goal and also laid on an assist for a teammate, per WhoScored, proving to be a threat for a side that currently sits top of its division.

Vitesse are above both Ajax and PSV by a solitary point after the first month. His impact, therefore, has played a part in lifting a team beyond expectations.

His goal threat, producing 2.4 shots per game, is impressive and considering the lack of strikers within Leeds’ squad there could have been a use for him in west Yorkshire.

At present Eddie Nketiah and Patrick Bamford are the only viable options unless you mull over a different role for Tyler Roberts or bring Ryan Edmondson into the fray.

Grot appeared 12 times as a centre forward in his opening season at Leeds and this is a role he could yet thrive in.

A loan spell seems beneficial, but his form so far provides evidence that Bielsa’s plans for him were wrong.

Everton Plan B Marco Silva needs to get the best out of Gylfi Sigurdsson & Moise Kean

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Everton showed signs of improvement against Wolves but Marco Silva is still yet to find the right balance between attack and defence.

On the chalkboard

The Toffees had six shots on target at the weekend, doubling the tally they had achieved in the three league games prior to that fixture, and their three goals scored suggests they now pose more of an attacking threat.

However, they also doubled the amount of goals they conceded, and there is a sense that Silva is yet to settle on his preferred team, with the likes of Bernard, Morgan Schneiderlin and Dominic Calvert-Lewin being dropped for the first time.

Since arriving last summer the Portuguese manager has preferred to use a 4-2-3-1 formation, but there is an alternative method he could use which would suit the players at his disposal.

A diamond formation would allow the likes of Moise Kean and Richarlison to take up forward positions, and as they both come alive in the box they could be more likely to get on the end of goalscoring chances if they partnered each other up front.

The system would also allow Gylfi Sigurdsson to maintain his role playing just behind the strikers, whilst providing extra cover by operating with a defensive midfielder, with Fabian Delph and Andre Gomes acting as box-to-box midfielders.

A flaw with the diamond formation is often a lack of width, but both Lucas Digne and Seamus Coleman excel going forward – as evidenced by their assist record – and they would provide a threat from the flanks.

More suited to current squad

Everton have got off to a rather slow start to the season but there have been positives. Sigurdsson is growing into the season with a goal and an assist from his last two games, but with two strikers to aim for he could improve on those numbers.

Kean, meanwhile, has struggled to adjust so far and made just six passes at the weekend, but his introduction did result in a greater attacking threat for Everton and he has made an impact from the bench on occasion, with two shots in 19 minutes against Watford.

Partnering him with another striker could get the best out of him, too. At Juventus last season he started in a front two on four occasions and scored four goals in that time, and with Sigurdsson playing behind him the two would likely link up well.

Watch: How Gareth Bale’s move to China could resurrect his career and save Wales’ 2020 campaign

Only in the footballing world can a situation like Gareth Bale’s be classed as a minor emergency.

The former world’s most expensive player currently sits pretty on a wage package at Real Madrid worth around £600,000 per week.

Unfortunately, however, or rather fortunately if it were any other job in the world, Bale isn’t actually having to do much to earn those wages. In fact, Zinedine Zidane, who’s on his second term as boss of Los Blancos, has explicitly said that the Welshman has no place in the club’s future plans (a major problem for Bale fans around the world but not so much for the man in the question, who’s accumulating around £3,571 per hour, by our calculations).

Now linked with a career saving move to China (a paradox, we know), Pl>ymaker FC’s WHATMARCDOES has discussed how the transfer could save Wales’ Euro 2020 campaign.

Crystal Palace fans are saying this about Dougie Freedman & scouts on Holmesdale

[ad_pod ]

It has been a quiet summer at Crystal Palace so far in terms of signings, and Eagles supporters have been busy discussing sporting director Dougie Freedman and the club’s scouting team on the Holmesdale forum.

While they have received an initial £45m fee from Manchester United for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, their only incoming to date has been goalkeeper Stephen Henderson on a free transfer.

You would think that the south London outfit at the very least need a right-back to replace the England U21 international, as well as a striker given Christian Benteke and Connor Wickham only managed to score one goal between them in all competitions last season.

Freedman is one of the main men when it comes to making these transfer decisions, and he has his own thread on Holmesdale right now where fans have been discussing him and those responsible for identifying potential new players.

What have they been saying? Any interesting comments?

There are those for and against, to be fair.

In the video below, find out which Chelsea academy prospect is reportedly being lined up to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka at Crystal Palace…

Some are still clearly backing the former Palace striker and believe he has a difficult job, and others that feel that he isn’t doing well enough in his role.

One fans points to the club bringing in Cheikhou Kouyate, Max Meyer and Vicente Guaita as proof that Freedman is working with tough restrictions – which is difficult to argue with – while another says that the presence of a club like Chelsea makes it difficult to win the race for the best young players.

Others are not so impressed with the 45-year-old and the transfer team at all though, and rightly so. As one individual points out, they have brought in two currently out-of-favour players in Alexander Sorloth and Jaroslaw Jach, while two goalkeeper additions have already left Selhurst Park.

There are good points made for both sides of the argument when it comes to the Scot’s role and how he is performing, and those opinions on him could go either way depending on what business the Eagles do in the next month.

Man United fans are delighted by Aaron Wan-Bissaka signing

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United have officially announced Aaron Wan-Bissaka as their latest summer signing, a major coup for the side who watched Ashley Young play right-back 26 times last term.

The Red Devils have made him the second addition to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad as they prepare to climb the English Premier League table next season.

The right-back will join on a five-year deal, with the option of a sixth, with reports suggesting a fee of £45m has been paid to Crystal Palace for his signature and that the player will earn as much as £80,000-a-week.

Could United be in the hunt for an £85m blockbuster signing this summer? Check out the video below…

Making 35 Premier League appearances last season, the 21-year-old is said by Solskjaer to be “one of the best upcoming defenders” in the division.

Despite his age, it appears he’ll be getting plenty of opportunities in the first-team next season, with the Man United boss building a young, exciting team that can grow and develop together.

United fans are keen to see him in action, delighted that he has been officially announced.

These supporters have taken to Twitter this weekend to share their thoughts…

Injury News: Jamie Murphy return further boosts Steven Gerrard’s wing options

[ad_pod ]

Rangers winger Jamie Murphy has stepped up his recovery from injury by returning early to the club’s training ground for pre-season, as reported by The Daily Record.

What’s the story?

Murphy missed almost the entire 2018/19 season after suffering a horror knee injury on the artificial surface at Rugby Park last year, sparking a debate about the use of non-grass surfaces in the Scottish top-flight.

The paper say he could now feature in upcoming pre-season friendlies in July after putting in the hard work to rehab and build his fitness ahead of the new season.

Watch how to cross the road like a boss with freestyler Ben Nuttall in the video below…

Steven Gerrard and his squad officially return to training on Monday, but Murphy has been putting in the extra shifts with teammate Matt Polster.

Yet another option

Gerrard isn’t exactly lacking for options on the wing right now after signing Jordan Jones and Jake Hastie, but with Ryan Kent still not signed up there’s every chance that Murphy could become an important figure at Ibrox next season.

On his initial loan spell at the club in 2017/18 he scored five goals and assisted an impressive ten times in 19 appearances.

That short-term deal was later turned into a permanent transfer when Gerrard arrived and he initially looked like becoming an integral part of the side before injury struck, making eight early season appearances under the Liverpool icon.

His return will be a major boost to the Ibrox boss, providing the Gers team with yet another attacking threat.
