Coppack, Griffith star as Sunrisers claim maiden silverware

Sunrisers completed their turnaround from perennial wooden spoon winners to become the last-ever regional winners of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.Sunrisers failed to win a match in the first three editions of the competition – first held in 2020 – but Kate Coppack’s 4 for 27 and Cordelia Griffith’s half-century set up a 27-run DLS victory over South East Stars.Coppack’s career-best ripped out the Stars top order to leave them 53 for 4, but Alice Davidson-Richards formed half-century partnerships with Aylish Cranstone and Phoebe Franklin on her way to 93.Stars eventually reached 212, which Griffith attacked with her fourth fifty in her last five innings – and by the time the rain came they were on 121 for 3 and comfortably ahead of the 94 DLS par score. It meant Sunrisers were the last to win the tournament in this format, with counties replacing the regions and the Metro Bank One-Day Cup becoming the women’s 50-over competition in 2025 – although they will still compete to lift the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.Sunrisers stuck Stars in and proceeded to dismantle their top order – specifically through the uber-accurate Coppack, who returned her Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy best of 4 for 27.Coppack is one of the game’s most interesting characters. A full-time lawyer, she has played international cricket for Peru and her parents own an alpaca farm. But first and foremost she is a deadly new-ball bowler. The ball to bowl Alexa Stonehouse was seam-bowling perfection, as it kissed the top stump, even if the big hooping inswinger to castle a swinging Paige Scholfield was more aesthetically pleasing. She hit the stumps again, this time to run out Bryony Smith after a mix-up with Davidson-Richards, before pinning Kira Chathli in front an over after the powerplay had ended.Coppack’s exit from the attack after an opening spell of 3 for 17, saw Davidson-Richards flourish into a partnership with Cranstone. The stand, eventually worth 70, was built on Davidson-Richards’ ability of knowing when to use her power and when to push the runs on an expansive outfield. She reached a fourth successive fifty with the former tactic, a picked-up ping through midwicket, in 61 balls. But at the other end, Cranstone was stumped – injuring herself in the process of sprawling backwards and requiring assistance to return to the dressing room.Phoebe Franklin followed in Cranstone’s footsteps to provide the company for Davidson-Richards to thrive. But Coppack’s return saw the back of Franklin – bowled after a well-made 33 – and began the collapse which saw the last five wickets fall for 39 runs, as Davidson-Richards ran out of partners.Ryana MacDonald-Gay and Tilly Corteen-Coleman were carelessly run out, Kalea Moore was lbw and eventually Davidson-Richards ran out of steam seven runs shy of a second Stars century when Mady Villiers dismissed her leg before.Sunrisers’ response started abysmally as Jo Gardner was lbw to teenager Corteen-Coleman for a golden duck. But from there the in-form Griffith saw the ball like a pumpkin with a series of increasingly middled shots to the boundary. Her 54-ball fifty saw caressed cover drives, pumped pulls and sweeps to the boundary, as Grace Scrivens largely just passed over the strike in their 79-run stand.Griffith, a Sunriser since the beginning, departed when she chased a wide Moore delivery to cover before the spinner got one to stick in the pitch to have Jodi Grewcock caught and bowled.About a quarter of an hour later, and 25 overs into the innings, and lighting in the area took the players off, before torrential rain turned the outfield into a lake. At 4.20pm it was called off and Sunrisers had completed their zero-to-hero arch.

Ipswich Town make contact to sign in-demand Sadio Mane-esque £17m forward

Ipswich Town have now made an approach to sign a new £17m striker, who is also a target for some of Europe’s biggest clubs, according to a report.

Ipswich keen on new striker following Delap departure

Ipswich have made a strong start to the summer transfer window, securing deals for the likes of Azor Matusiwa, Cedric Kipre and Ashley Young.

However, Kieran McKenna has a big decision on his hands following Liam Delap’s move to Chelsea, as he can choose to either press on with George Hirst as the main man in attack, or pursue a move for a new striker.

Hirst arguably struggled to make the step-up to the Premier League last season, scoring just three goals, but the centre-forward was a reliable source of goals and assists during the 2023-24 Championship campaign, amassing 13 goal contributions in 26 games.

As such, the 26-year-old could be capable of leading the line for a promotion-chasing side, but the Tractor Boys have now made an approach to sign a new striker, who is attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

He's their new Delap: Ipswich prioritising move to sign 25 y/o La Liga star

The Tractor Boys desperately need a Delap replacement.

ByTom Cunningham Jul 25, 2025

That is according to a report from Football Insider, which states Ipswich have now made contact over a deal for Metz forward Idrissa Gueye, who could be available for a fee of around £17m this summer.

However, there may be fierce competition for Gueye’s signature, as Liverpool have made an approach of their own, alongside the likes of West Ham United, Crystal Palace and Borussia Dortmund, showing just how highly the 18-year-old is rated.

With a number of the Serie A’s top clubs and Manchester United also interested in the striker, it could be difficult for the Tractor Boys to get a deal over the line, but there is certainly interest on their behalf, and the race is now underway.

Gueye could be real coup for Ipswich

It would be a real coup if McKenna’s side were able to sign the Metz forward, given how highly he is regarded, having previously been likened to a Liverpool legend, with journalist Alan Nixon revealing the youngster is “rated as highly as Sadio Mane was”.

Al Nassr'sSadioManecelebrates

The Senegalese starlet has already managed to force his way into the Metz first team, picking up five goals and one assist in 17 Ligue 2 outings last season, indicating that he may now be ready to lead the line for a Championship side.

However, given that Gueye is being pursued by some of Europe’s biggest clubs, it seems unlikely that Ipswich will be able to get a deal over the line, meaning it may be worth moving on to a more attainable target.

Widespread claims have suggested that Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford could also be in the Tractor Boys’ sights, and the 31-year-old may well be a solid signing, having picked up a total of 69 goals and 15 assists in 217 Championship appearances.

Berta to offer "emerging star" in Arsenal swap deal for near-£70m signing

Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta has made quite the impression already since taking over from his predecessor, Edu Gaspar, in late March – and the 53-year-old is personally very keen to get one transfer over the line.

Berta is currently attempting to seal an array of deals behind-the-scenes, right after the club officially announced the arrivals of Spanish duo Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi, with Christian Norgaard also completing his move to Arsenal after a medical (David Ornstein).

Arsenal are in advanced talks for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, and the prolific 27-year-old could be joined by either Real Madrid star Rodrygo or Chelsea’s Noni Madueke as the Gunners also target a new left-winger.

Madueke has already agreed personal terms with Arsenal, but Rodrygo is understood to be their “dream” target in that area, and Berta is known to do work on targets simultaneously before pressing ahead with the best deal.

Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera has agreed terms over an Arsenal move too, but the Premier League title hopefuls are yet to find an agreement with his club and some reports suggest that talks for the 21-year-old have stalled.

Moves for either Madueke or Rodrygo, as reliably reported, won’t impact their talks to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.

Crystal Palace's EberechiEzecelebrates with the trophy after winning the FA Cup

Arsenal have held positive talks over signing Eze, but it is believed that Berta and co do not wish to pay the England international’s full £68 million release clause as all parties attempt to find a solution.

Eze is rumoured to be keen on joining Mikel Arteta’s side, though, giving the club some encouragement that there is a deal to be done here.

Arsenal could offer "emerging star" in swap deal for Eberechi Eze

There are a few avenues Arsenal could go down in their attempts to find a full agreement, and one of them is a potential player-exchange.

That is according to journalist Rahman Osman, who told The Sun this week that Arsenal could offer an unnamed “emerging star” to Palace in a swap deal for Eze.

Berta himself is personally “determined” to sign the 27-year-old – who scored 14 goals and registered a further 11 assists in all competitions last term – and the Italian has held talks with his representatives.

He will keep trying to convince Palace to part company, but the south Londoners are just as steadfast in demanding Eze’s full release clause be paid. That being said, Osman also reports that they might be open to accepting a “promising defender” as part of the deal.

A proven Premier League star, Eze spearheaded Palace to their first ever major trophy with the FA Cup final-winning goal against Man City at Wembley last season – 14 years after he was released by Arsenal as a 13-year-old academy youngster.

Tottenham hold negotiations over signing 6 foot 5 defender in last few days

Tottenham Hotspur have held negotiations over signing a colossal centre-back in the last few days, according to reports, with chairman Daniel Levy and technical director Johan Lange working to strengthen the squad.

According to reports, Tottenham chiefs are currently ’50/50′ about sacking Postecoglou, with the Australian ending their 17-year wait for a major trophy whilst also leading them to a record-breaking 22 Premier League defeats this campaign, resulting in a lowly 17th-placed finish.

The emotional high surrounding their first European triumph since 1984 in the Europa League, coupled with Postecoglou’s rousing speech at the trophy parade, will be firmly stuck in Levy’s mind – and the chairman is now faced with an almighty conundrum ahead of next season.

“As much as you try to understand what a trophy would mean to these people, seeing them out there today, is why we do what we do,” said Postecoglou after their Europa League final win.

“That’s the priceless bit, for this feeling. I’m super pleased that these boys could deliver. All good things come through hard work, toil, perseverance and belief. This group have that in spades and I’m so pleased that we could crack that stone and now everyone can enjoy it.

“We had to dig deep, for sure, but what the history books will say is that we’re the Europa Cup winners, and it doesn’t say how we did it, just that we did it. I made family a theme from when I got here because I felt that we needed something to bring us all together and look further than just what everybody wanted. We had to form some sort of unity and the lads have been brilliant. They’ve shared their stories and got closer through the tough times like all families and now they share the reward.”

A decision on Postecoglou will need to be made and quickly, with the first of two 2025 summer transfer windows set to open imminently.

Tottenham hold "negotiations" over signing Pisa defender Francesco Coppola

Tottenham’s qualification for the Champions League gives Levy and Lange an almighty boost when it comes to the club’s recruitment drive, with reports suggesting Spurs are more confident they can tempt players like Marc Guehi as a result.

Crystal Palace's MarcGuehi

The Crystal Palace star isn’t their only defensive target, either, with Pisa Sporting Club’s rising star Francesco Coppola also on their radar.

The Italy Under-20 international spent 2024/2025 on loan at Serie C side Vis Pesaro, but his performances in the third tier have apparently impressed Spurs scouts – so much so that they’ve approached Pisa over signing him.

That is according to La Nazione, who write that Tottenham held “negotiations” over Coppola in the last few days, but these talks ended pretty swiftly.

Pisa are said to have rebuffed Levy’s advances for the towering 6 foot 5 defender, as they appear determined to keep hold of their highly-promising centre-back. If Spurs are to be successful in their pursuit, they may have to go back in with an offer which proves too good to resist.

Everton now poised to pounce for "excellent" £12m Premier League midfielder

Everton are poised to pounce for an “excellent” Premier League midfielder, who is now looking increasingly likely to leave his club this summer, according to a report.

Toffees set sights on new midfielder

It is set to be a summer of change for the Toffees, with the move to Bramley-Moore Dock to take place prior to the start of the 2025-26 campaign, while David Moyes is also looking to upgrade his squad in a number of different positions.

Having flirted with relegation over the past few seasons, it is little wonder Moyes is eyeing upgrades in several areas, with Leeds United’s Junior Firpo among the targets at left-back, while Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap could be brought in to provide more attacking firepower.

The Merseysiders are also looking to upgrade their options in the engine room, with an offer now being prepared for Lille central midfielder Angel Gomes, who is set to be available on a free transfer this summer.

However, amid widespread interest in Gomes, it could be difficult to get a deal over the line, and a different central midfielder has now entered the frame as a potential summer target.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Everton are now poised to pounce for Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff, who is looking increasingly likely to exit St. James’ Park this summer, with the Magpies prepared to sanction a departure for just £12m.

Eddie Howe’s side are eager to cash-in on Longstaff, with his contract set to expire in 2026, potentially opening the door for a move to Merseyside, having been identified as a strong target by the Toffees.

Moyes is looking to overhaul his squad this summer, and wants to bring in players with Premier League experience, but there could be fierce competition for the midfielder, with Manchester United, Leeds United and teams in Scotland also keen.

"Excellent" Longstaff could be solid signing for Toffees

As the season has progressed, the Englishman has started to play more of a sporadic role, often being limited to appearances off the bench, but he has impressed Howe in the past, with the manager previously describing him as “excellent”.

With Moyes keen on proven Premier League players, the 27-year-old also fits the bill in that regard, having made 171 appearances in the top flight, picking up ten goals and nine assists.

Not only is the central midfielder capable of posing an attacking threat, but he is also willing to pitch in defensively, as showcased by his performance on some key metrics over the past year.

Tottenham determined and willing to pay £43m for Bournemouth star Semenyo

Tottenham Hotspur are now determined to win the race for a “fantastic” Premier League forward, and they are willing to fork out £43m to get a deal over the line, according to a report.

Spurs return to winning ways against Saints

Tottenham’s four-game winless run in the Premier League came to an end yesterday afternoon, securing a 3-1 victory against Southampton at home, which meant the visitors’ relegation was confirmed at the earliest stage in history.

It was a game Spurs were expected to win, despite their poor form, and they got the job done in relatively comfortable fashion, with Brennan Johnson bagging a brace and Mathys Tel picking up his first Premier League goal.

Ange Postecoglou is likely to be happy with the performances of his forwards, but there are signs the Australian could look to bolster his attacking options in the summer, should he manage to retain his job.

Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the most recent striker to be linked with a move to north London, while the Lilywhites are also keen to strengthen in wide areas, and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze is among the potential targets.

Eze is not the only Premier League winger they have their eye on, however, with a report from Spain revealing Tottenham are now determined to win the race for AFC Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo.

Manchester United are also interested in the Bournemouth winger, with the two clubs set to battle it out for his services this summer, and they are willing to shell out €50m (£43m) to get a deal over the line.

The Cherries aren’t completely against cashing-in on the Ghanaian, should they receive a suitable offer, despite his importance to Andoni Iraola’s side.

"Fantastic" Semenyo impressing for the Cherries

It would be fair to say Bournemouth have surpassed expectations this season, given that they still have an outside chance of qualifying for Europe, and the 25-year-old has been one of their key players.

The London-born winger almost always plays the full 90 minutes, and he has regularly provided goals and assists in the Premier League, with 12 goal contributions to his name in 30 appearances.

Journalist Thomas Hammond has also been left impressed by the Ghana international this season, lauding him as “fantastic” after an impressive performance against Newcastle United back in January.

That said, Semenyo hasn’t been in the best form in recent weeks, having now gone six games without a goal or assist in the Premier League, so Tottenham should continue to monitor his performances between now and the end of the season.

Kingston hopes new Sabina Park mural will attract city's youth and tourists

Michael Holding, Chris Gayle, Stafanie Taylor among players showcasing the spirit of Jamaican cricket

Varun Shetty20-Aug-2021About 30,000 people are said to have thronged the streets around Boys’ Town, Kingston, when Collie Smith died in a car accident in England in 1959. Smith, 26, had been travelling with close friend Garry Sobers, who would go on to dedicate a chapter to Smith in his book .”In all my innings, and especially in Jamaica where they so loved Collie, I played with him inside me. Trying perhaps to give him the innings that death had denied him. We had some wonderful innings together. They were beginning to call me a great allrounder. Collie was a greater allrounder than I,” Sobers said.Smith played 26 Tests for West Indies between 1955 and 1959, and was believed to be the only batter to score centuries on first appearance (at 21 and 24, respectively) against both Australia and England at the time. His most important achievement, though, was doing it all coming from Boys’ Town, a neighbourhood that has battled a long-standing reputation for violence and corruption. To his people, Smith was an immortal beacon of representation in cricket. That story, and many others, will be now be represented on a new mural at Sabina Park that aims to capture the spirit of Jamaican cricket, as part of a larger art project that aims to turn Kingston into a “destination city”. Nineteen cricketers are featured on the mural: George Headley, Allan Rae, Alf Valentine, Jackie Hendricks, Easton McMorris, Collie Smith, Maurice Foster, Michael Holding, Jimmy Adams, Stafanie Taylor, Chris Gayle, Marlon Samuels, Marlon Tucker, Jeff Dujon, Courtney Walsh, Patrick Patterson, Tamar Lambert, Dennal Shim and Nikita Miller.”When the administration that I lead took office in 2016, we decided as a policy position, that we would reposition the city of Kingston in the form of a vision, and that was to transform it into a destination city, a tourism city,” says Mayor Delroy Williams.
“The repositioning means that we have to integrate its history – it has a rich cultural history in the arts, music and literature. We are creating spaces for our residents and our visitors, so that they can interact with our culture and history.”Artists represented each player with a portrait, an action shot and Ghanian Adinkra symbols•Deandra Young SangThe mural at Sabina Park follows a wide-ranging do-over of downtown Kingston, a region that had previously become synonymous with rundown buildings and abandoned businesses. For Rosemarie “Rozi” Chung, director at Studio 174, a non-profit arts academy, who led the project, the brief came directly from the Minister of Culture. It revolved around capturing the spirit of Jamaican cricket, and its significance to the population. The mural has a template – one action photo juxtaposed with one portrait of each player against a blue backdrop that sprawls across the wall; but Chung and her team of young artists – Anthony, Tiana Anglin, Cee Jay Carpio, Yanque Yip, and Jordan Harrison – wanted to go beyond simple portraiture.”Cricket is not just a game. It’s a way of being, and we wanted to create it in such a manner that young people could come on board,” Chung says.”We speak about Jamaican culture, so we went [far] back with the research. It wasn’t just creating imagery, but researching a bit about Sabina and some of the symbols we have on the wall reflect that.”The imagery derives from the Adinkra symbols of Ghana, in a bid to reflect Jamaican culture before slavery, Chung says, and a way to get the education system involved.”The fact is the Adinkra symbols are used all over the world and people don’t even realise it. So we put that in as a way of speaking to you about the character. For instance, Stafanie Taylor, what I created there, along with an artist called Delano Macfarlane – her symbol represents strength, beauty, and humility. That’s an example of what the symbols could mean and refer to – taking you beyond a face. Deeper, to describe the person and how they play.”The symbol used for Chris Gayle is illustrative of that – , the king of the Adinkra symbols, that depicts greatness, charisma, and leadership. But beyond their deeper meanings, the symbols also served as visual elements to anchor the art and connect cricketers of different eras, says Anthony Smith, the artist who painted Collie Smith (symbol: , meaning: Affluence, Abundance, Unity), Holding (also ), Walsh ( – Child of the Heavens) and Marlon Tucker ( – Celebration). The Walk of Fame at Sabina Park by the side of the building commemorates players, officials and other legends of Jamaican cricket•Anthony Smith”For those who are not interested in asking the questions, they will see something beautiful, something that not only unites the works across the entire wall, but represents something they themselves can learn,” Anthony says. “It’s not a case where we created these symbols right here on the project. We borrowed them. So what we’re doing is creating some kind of education, so that someone else may use this kind of visual language as a way of spreading the culture.”Discussions on the project began in 2019. The cricket board selected the list of cricketers, and Chung’s team then had to think of the scale of the mural, which she believes it could be among the biggest in Kingston. The involvement of women artists, painting women cricketers in the murals, drew intrigue among young girls as the project went along, say the team members.Representation is at the heart of this project, and one of the major topics the team hopes to create conversation around is racism.”We Jamaicans did, in various forms, oppose the racism in South Africa, and the sport of cricket and our cricket personnel at the time were very vocal against racism in South Africa,” Williams says. The most persistent recent examples of that are the conversations that Michael Holding has been stirring over the last year or so. Holding is one of the cricketers on that wall, and whilst his work on that front isn’t directly reflected here, the municipality hopes that his presence will prompt the public to find out more.”While we didn’t get to speak to the cricketers directly on the topic of racism, we did do a bit of research on what they would have experienced,” says Anglin, the muralist who contributed six cricketers to the wall. “I think that’s why, also, the use of Adinkra symbols would have been important, to show the strength of our culture and our history. And I think that in itself is a silent protest against the whole act and what they would have gone through.”The larger art project in downtown Kingston, with interactive art spaces containing murals of musicians like Desmond Dekker, Millie Small, Jimmy Cliff, and Bunny Wailer, has already shown signs of success – there has been an uptick in business investors downtown, says Williams.Stafanie Taylor is painted with the Dwennimmen symbol, representing strength, beauty and humility•Tiana AnglinIn a cricket-specific context, the ongoing West Indies-Pakistan series should be a start in terms of visibility for this particular project. In the making of the mural, though, there is already a story of one of those legends resonating with the younger people of Jamaica. When the 24-year-old Anthony painted Collie Smith on the wall, he was painting one of his heroes.”He’s my father’s namesake and he also has my surname,” Anthony says. “But not only that, [it’s] what he represented – the community he came from was an area that, at the time, would have been seen as a ‘bad area’. He represented that something bigger can happen, something big, something fantastic to look forward to. And he did it all at a very young age, so he just showed that the youth can stand up to something monumental, and represent the area, and show that something good can come from that space. That’s one thing he did that I found quite heroic.”One thing I realised was that a sense of ownership was created in the people, primarily the passersby. They saw themselves in the work, their behaviour reflected that the work was theirs. It was energising to see that the community is that involved in what is happening in their country.”The immediate next step for the project will be to introduce plaques to provide more information on the cricketers who form a list that spans nearly 80 years of Jamaican cricket. That will form a crucial part in educating younger people in the region, who are likely to know the likes of Gayle, Samuels, and Walsh, but not so much about the rest. Chung hopes this will be the start of a longer project “speaking of other moments of cricket”.”Hopefully with the feedback locally and abroad, we can continue the project. Because there’s so much more to say about cricket, and we are learning at the same time.”The artists will firmly agree that it was a wonderful project and they too needed time to just look at the work. Most of the time, we don’t get to look at the work. We want everyone to come and experience it. It’s a different thing to when you experience it online, because they’re huge, you know? They’re amazing, really amazing,” Chung says.A look at the schedule says that Kingston might have to wait until England’s tour in January next year to become a destination city in the cricketing context. On all other fronts, things seem to be going to plan.
