Leeds fans give damning verdicts on Mateusz Klich

Leeds were back to winning ways for only the second time in six matches in all competitions on Tuesday. They bounced back from what was a tough defeat against Charlton last weekend to reign victorious over previously unbeaten West Brom. After the game took place, The Athletics’ Phil Hay posted an article that detailed the progression of Mateusz Klich, one of the players to take to the field for the Whites in midweek. However, the Polish midfielder was criticised by a certain segment of Leeds supporters who offered damning verdicts on specific aspects of his play when replying to his tweet. One fan said that he looked leggy while his inability to shoot properly was also at the front of one individual’s mind.Klich netted ten times in the Championship last term but has only scored one this time around. He also missed a penalty against Derby.A further fan was looking for improvement in the final third, explaining his decision making was poor.

Klich has been mooted for a new contract recently but nothing has yet to formally come out of the club regarding his future.

Here’s some of the criticism he received.

Barcelona’s loanee Marc Cucurella keeps dropping great performances at Getafe

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Loan Watch series, which takes a closer look at those players who are aiming to galvanise their careers away from the spotlight of their parent club.

Not all La Masia products are meant for greatness and certainly not all make it into Barcelona’s senior team.

Of course, the golden generation with the likes of Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets is probably one you get once in a million years but that doesn’t mean the famous Catalan academy has stopped producing talent altogether.

Some, like left-back Marc Cucurella for example, have their obvious qualities but seeing how Barcelona’s senior squad is already stacked with talent at most positions, the 21-year-old’s loan deal to Getafe has proved fruitful.

And Cucurella seems to be enjoying his stay away from the Catalan capital, recording multiple brilliant performances already, with the latest coming against Real Sociedad in La Liga.

Indeed, Getafe won the game 2-1 against a remarkably tough opponent.

The former La Masia talent recorded two key passes during the match, attempted three crosses and tallied 58 touches, second-highest in the team and only behind Damian Suarez.

But Cucurella was effective going the other way as well, recording a team-highest three interceptions and one tackle under his name in the process.

By all accounts, the young La Masia ace certainly impressed and it does beg the question as to why he was sent out on loan if he already possesses enough quality to compete in La Liga.

Of course, Barcelona ended up buying a new left-back, in the form of Junior Firpo, to relieve Jordi Alba in his time of need but maybe Cucurella could’ve been a cheaper and equally effective choice himself.

We’ll have to wait and see how both players continue performing in the future and whether Barcelona will regret their summer decision or not.

Arsenal are monitoring Feyenoord midfielder Orkun Kokcu

Arsenal are reported to be monitoring the progress of Feyenoord midfielder Orkun Kokcu, according to the Daily Mail.

What’s the word?

The 18-year-old has been in the Gunners’ eyesight as the creative midfielder is establishing himself in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Mesut Ozil has found himself ostracised by Unai Emery and looks increasingly like a disenchanted, peripheral and ultimately disposable asset.

The Daily Mail suggest an offer around £20m may be enough to secure the Turkey U21 international’s services, with the club aware of the challenge that lies ahead in keeping him.

Creativity is key

With two goals in 13 games in all competitions so far this season, the youngster has plenty of attacking characteristics that can push Arsenal towards qualifying for the Champions League.

The Gunners have been guilty of fielding three defensive midfielders at times this season, particularly against Manchester United during a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

A lack of creativity has been a notable criticism from the Arsenal supporters towards Emery, but Kokcu could change that as he aims to develop into a high quality creative player.

Emery’s strange deployment of his middle trio has cost his side points at critical moments, despite the Gunners sitting third in the Premier League.

The lack of offensive-minded midfielders could see Arsenal miss out on the Champions League, which would do no favours to Emery’s position as manager.

Barcelona fans back Umtiti to regain first-team place

Samuel Umtiti has been unlucky with injuries as of late.

The 25-year-old French defender is yet to return to full fitness after suffering from a foot injury back in September.

But unfortunately, that is not the only setback he has sustained in recent times. Before that, Umtiti used to have a lot of problems with his knee and had to miss 28 games in the 2018/19 season alone.

So far, he’s been out for 49 days with his latest issue and Barcelona will surely hope he manages to recover quickly.

Be that as it may, Clement Lenglet had to step up in Umtiti’s absence and the Blaugrana’s other French centre-back did well.

But now that Umtiti is close to fully recovering, the question remains: is he going to slot back into the starting XI or is he now long past his best?

Many Barcelona fans still believe the 25-year-old can reclaim his spot and they have been calling for him to return while reminding everyone else of his quality.

It seems that many of them still haven’t lost their faith in the unlucky centre-back. You can see some of their replies down in the collection of tweets below:

Marco Silva praises Tom Davies and cites importance of homegrown talent

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Marco Silva has praised academy graduate Tom Davies and touched on the importance of bringing through homegrown talent at the club.

What did he say?

Davies started his first Premier League match of the season on Saturday, having made just two substitute appearances in the top-flight this season prior to the West Ham United win. The 21-year-old put in a memorable performance, helping register Everton’s first league win since early September.

Silva told the club’s website: “It is really important to me and you know even last season what we did with Tom, giving him more responsibility in some games and being our captain,” added Silva.

“I know how it is important for our fans to see him more. It is important to give chances to players from our Academy and it was very good to see Tom performing well.

“He had a very good game, in my opinion, disciplined and understanding the moments of the game to press the opponent, when to be more in control of the position as well.

“He played the second half on a yellow card (Davies was booked shortly after half-time) and he was controlled and managed that well.

“I was really pleased to see how he got the chance and had a good game.”

Davies turnaround could stimulate change

Davies’ start against the Hammers was the first time this season that Silva has started one of the club’s own in the league.

Many names from the youth squads have been making a lot of noise, such as Anthony Gordon and Ellis Simms.

Gordon has scored six times in six goals so far for the U23s, providing two assists along the way. Considering that the goals have dried up for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, the 19-year-old may be playing his way into Silva’s plans this season.

Elsewhere, Mina’s injury could force Lewis Gibson into the squad, though his lack of experience is clearly a cause for concern. Silva needs to bleed in more youngsters to stop this happening in the future.

Davies will be looking to kick-start his career following the encouraging performance last weekend, and any future success could act as a potential blueprint for Silva to trust in more of the young talent at his disposal.

Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil may as well just leave, claims Ian Abrahams

Mesut Ozil was excluded from Arsenal’s squad for the sixth time this term ahead of last night’s Europa League clash against Vitoria SC prompting Ian ‘Moose’ Abrahams to claim he may as well ‘just leave.’It’s not looking good for Ozil, at the moment. Once a cherished piece of footballing art, Unai Emery appears to have made it his life’s mission to freeze the German out from his squad, affording him a meagre two appearances and 142 minutes of football. And while he’s sat on a cool £350,000 per week deal, at 31-years-old we’re fairly positive he doesn’t want to spend the remaining years of his football career collecting dust.Watch Arsenal Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The Gunners only narrowly beat their Portuguese foes last night thanks to two freekicks from summer signing Nicolas Pepe. Had they failed to register a win, which was entirely possible given that Vitoria took the lead on two occasions, serious questions would have been asked of Emery, whose decision to play Ainsley-Maitland Niles in one of his attacking midfield roles backfired spectacularly.

The 22-year-old recorded a lowly 5.3 rating on WhoScored and was hauled off at half-time after making the error that led Vitoria’s second goal.

The Moose was straight to the point prior to kick-off…

Leeds fans react to Pablo Hernandez’s comments on Marcelo Bielsa

Leeds United fans on Twitter have been reacting to Pablo Hernandez’s recent comments on Marcelo Bielsa.

The Spaniard has stated that he’s still learning from the Argentine despite thinking he knew everything there is to know about football when he arrived at Elland Road.

This is high praise from a player who has worked with some of the world’s top managers such as Vicente Del Bosque and Unai Emery.

Of course, these comments had United fans once again waxing lyrical about their manager.

You can’t blame them either, it’s impossible to underestimate the impact Bielsa has had at the Yorkshire club since taking the job in 2018, lifting them from midtable to the top of the division.

Despite falling short of promotion last season he’s already cemented himself as a bit of a legend at the club.

Here’s what Leeds fans on Twitter have been saying about the Argentine after Hernandez’s comments…

Liverpool: Fans react to Michael Oliver taking charge of Manchester City game

Liverpool fans have responded in a positive fashion after it was revealed that Michael Oliver will take charge of the Reds’ title clash at Anfield against Manchester City on Sunday.

The Reds will take on the Citizens in their first of two games after being unable to beat Pep Guardiola’s side last season. They, of course, lose out to them in the Premier League, despite accumulating a record 97 points.

There were fears that Martin Atkinson would take charge of the titan clash but those worries quickly eased.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will go into the game at Anfield unbeaten and with 10 wins out of their first 11 games, having only dropped points against Manchester United. Meanwhile, their opponents Manchester City sit six points behind the Merseyside club after falling to defeats against Norwich City and Wolves respectively.

Supporters were relieved to see the appointment of Oliver and reacted positively on social media.

Here you will find some of the best comments from Liverpool fans ahead of the game:

Liverpool are said to be interested in Memphis Depay

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to Calciomercato, Liverpool are interested in Lyon’s Memphis Depay.

What’s the story?

The Netherlands international played for Manchester United between 2015 and 2017, and struggled to perform for the Red Devils. In 53 appearances in all competitions, he managed just seven goals and six assists.

However, he has re-booted his career in Ligue 1 with Les Gones, and he is now attracting interest from both the Reds and Premier League rivals Tottenham.

Dethrone Shaqiri

Going forward, there are few attacks in world football that are as strong as Liverpool’s. Between them last season, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino score a grand total of 69 goals in all competitions as Jurgen Klopp’s team marched towards the Champions League title.

As such, 25-year-old Depay would struggle to break into the first XI and be a guaranteed starter, but there is no reason why he couldn’t be a back-up and rotation option for the Reds, providing an improvement on Xherdan in the same role.

Since moving to France for £16m in 2017, the former PSV Eindhoven winger has looked rejuvenated, scoring 50 goals and providing 42 assists in 130 matches as Lyon qualified for the Champions League in back-to-back seasons. He has returned to the stunning form that convinced United to sign him in the first place in 2015.

80-time Switzerland international Shaqiri joined Liverpool for £13m after former side Stoke City got relegated to the Championship. Yes, he may have started just 15 games in all competitions, but he had an important impact when he did appear. Against Man United, for example, his brace won them all three points, whilst he also provided an assist in the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona. He is a good player, but Depay, aged three years younger and more prolific in front of goal, would surely be an upgrade on the former Bayern Munich man.

His quality would allow to him have an even stronger impact for Klopp and co. His £40.5m market value – as per Transfermarkt – does make you wonder whether the Reds would be prepared to pay such a big fee for a back-up option, but should they do so, they would be getting a top talent who would not reduce the overall attacking threat of the team were he to feature.

Aston Villa fans praise Trezeguet’s performance against Wolves

Aston Villa were unable to get their Premier League season back on track in Sunday’s league fixture against Wolves, losing 2-1 to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, but consecutive league goals for summer signing Trezeguet has led to a number of the club’s fans praising the Egyptian international’s promising performance.

It was merely a consolation strike when Trezeguet found the back of the net in injury time, but the battling display from the £8.75m summer signing means the forward is seemingly finding some goalscoring form at a time where the West Midlands side are certainly in need of their attacking players stepping up and delivering.Â

It was a disappointing performance from Villa’s squad on Sunday, with goals from Ruben Neves and Raul Jimenez enough to consign Dean Smith’s side to a third consecutive Premier League defeat.

However, reacting to a tweet he composed after the game these fans were certainly appreciative of Trezeguet’s performance; despite yet another poor result for the newly-promoted side.

Here are some of the best reactions to Trezeguet’s display against Wolves.
